MASON CITY ? Delma M. Austin, 92, of Mason City, died Friday, December 31, 2004 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue, with the Rev. Bill Kanne of First Christian Church officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for Delma will be from 5:00 P.M. ? 7:00 P.M., Monday, January 3, 2005 at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Delma M. Austin Memorial Fund or to Opportunity Village in her name. Delma was born August 15, 1912 in Iowa City, the daughter of William A. and Rose Alice (Tucker) Collins. Delma came to Mason City from Hampton with her family at the age of four. She attended Mason City High School. Delma was united in marriage to O. Glenn Austin on September 9, 1930 in Mason City. She was a member of the First Christian Church. Delma was a member of the A.R.C. (Association for Retarded Citizens) and held the office of President for two years. After becoming a member of the A.R.C. she helped the local chapter get going again. Delma was a member of her Card Club for over fifty years. She also was a member of the McKinley P.T.A. and served as President for two years. Delma loved to bowl and was in the Mixed and Early Riser Leagues. She was very involved in assisting special needs persons with bowling and learning how to bowl. For nearly twenty years Delma ran the Handicap Bowling Program. She was also a member of the Degree of Honor and Royal Neighbors. Delma was a cherished caretaker of children by many families in the area. She will be dearly missed by both family and friends. Delma is survived by her children: Norma Jean Swenson and husband Dean, of Van Horne, Iowa, Robert Austin and wife Gloria, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Randy Austin and wife Patty, of Manly, John Austin, of Mason City and Cindy Wurtzel of Mason City. Delma is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, twenty-nine great great grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Elaine Austin of Mason City. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Glenn, one grandchild in infancy, a brother, one son, William, a granddaughter, Deborah Howard and one great grandchild.
