Delores E. Muller

Delores E. Muller, 93, of Mason City, died Wednesday, February 5, 2013 at the Heritage Care Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the Delores Muller Memorial Fund. Delores was born March 19, 1920 the oldest of 7 children to Wilhelm and Tressa (Ulsted) Otto. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice. Delores graduated from Joice High School in 1938. She worked in Joice at Evan Drug Store, Felland Jewerly, and the post office. When WW II broke out, Delores moved to Des Moines to work at the Ankeny Ammunition Plant. Delores met Eugene Muller who was from Charles City, and following his discharge from the service they were married January 5, 1943 in Des Moines. Two children were born, Nancy and Donald. Donald died at age 21 from injuries sustained in a car accident while serving in the US Navy, stationed in Virginia. Delores worked in food service for the Mason City School District for 30 years working at Jefferson Elementary and John Adams Junior High. She retired in 1982. Delores was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1946 and an active member of church circle. She also volunteered and was a member of RSVP. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and serving others. Delores is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Gary) Merkel of Cushing, Iowa; granddaughter, Michele (Allan) Eiklenborg of Hampton; grandson, Michael Merkel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; great grandchildren, Trevor and Nadilee Eiklenborg; step great granddaughter, Krystle (Ben) Hesse; sister, Helen Groe of Charlottesville, Virginia; brother, Dale Otto of Center, Texas and several nieces and nephews; Delores was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Eugene; son, Donald; sisters, Dorothy and Florence; brothers, Carl and Harold, and 5 brothers-in-law.
