Hudson was born Dolores Elizabeth Gossweiler, to Albert and Louise (Forster) Gossweiler, November 10, 1926, in rural Rockford, IA. She attended rural country school, and graduated from Rockwell High School in 1944. She worked at Lyons Laundry & Drycleaners in Mason City two years after graduation and before her marriage. She later worked at the Rockwell and Mason City Post Offices, retiring twenty-six years later in 1988. She lived all her life in Rockwell and Mason City, except a year as a Navy Reservist wife in New Orleans, LA (1951-52). She enjoyed a full life of family, friends, church, travel, and community service, where she was an active volunteer in church and town and school organizations. She recently recovered from a ten-month interval of illnesses and physical rehabilitation, so her sudden collapse and passing is a huge shock to family and friends. Dolores Hudson died peacefully Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at the age of 86 years, 10 months, surrounded by family, her pastor, and the hospital Chaplain. Mrs. Hudson will be deeply missed by her family: two daughters, Dr. Charlene G. Gooch (MA) and Laurene K. Gooch Podley and husband, Bob, (FL), and one son, David L. Gooch (Mason City); two grandchildren, Amanda Laurene Herro (FL) and Robert James Gooch, his wife, Anissa, and their newborn son, Gabriel David Gooch (Mrs. Hudson’s first great-grandchild), of St. Paul, MN. She is also survived by five siblings and their spouses: sisters Helen Teeple and Selina E. Gossweiler (both Mason City), and Nell Crafton (Lakewood, CO); brothers Albert Gossweiler and wife, Dorothy (Mason City), and Richard Gossweiler and wife Naomi (Rockwell), and many nieces and nephews in both the Gossweiler and Gooch families; stepsons Jeff, Larry, and Dan Hudson; plus many dear and good friends from church, Women’s Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Hospice families, Senior Center exercise group and activities, NARFE. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Louise Gossweiler and grandparents, her beloved second husband, James Hudson, brothers-in-law, Roy R. Crafton and Max Teeple, first husband, Laurence E. Gooch, and nephew, Nick Quinby.
