Donald Jay “Moose” Hamlin, 81, of Mason City, IA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, surrounded by family at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 8, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Kent A. Mechler of Good Shepherd Health Center officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. Memorials may be directed to the Donald Hamlin memorial fund in care of the family.

Donald Jay "Moose" Hamlin born August 15, 1934 in Mason City. Born to Christopher Jay and Rose Ella Hamlin. Raised in Thompson, Iowa then after entering the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict serving three years and was discharged in 1957 he then made his home in Mason City. On December 2, 1959, he entered into marriage with Sally Jane Rasmusson. To this marriage there were four children, Beverly, Patsy, Brenda, and Chris. They were married 41 years before Sally was called home in 2001. Don worked for the city of Mason City for 31 years before retiring in 1995. He then continued to fill his time as an active lifetime member of the American Legion, a member of the Mason City Memorial Honor Guard, and a lifetime member of Voiture 66 40&8. Don enjoyed spending time with his family going on family outings and mostly camping. Before the passing of his wife they played Mr. And Mrs. Santa Clause at the hospital. Don liked woodworking, playing games of dice, uno, cribbage, and word searches with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Don always had a smile and hug for everyone he met.

Those left to cherish his memories are his children Bev (Jim) McCoy, Patsy (Bill) Berneman, Brenda (Rich) Sherman, Chris (Heather) Hamlin. Grandchildren Jody (Jake) Gall, Mike (Melissa) McCoy, Ray (Connie) McCoy, Chis "FerFer" McCoy, Miranda McCoy, Karen (Chris) England, Nick (Kate) Hamlin, Devon (Sarah) Lee. Great grandchildren Melissa, Allison, Brandon, Casey, Jeremy, Dustin, Crisann, Duncan, Dallas, Abigail, Cody, Jacey, Taylor, Joseph, Cooper, Alex, Silas, Hayley, Sage. Great great grandchildren Inara and Joey.

He was preceded in death by wife Sally, grandson Matthew, parents, brothers, sisters, and mother in law.
