MASON CITY ? Donald J. Newbowers, 75 a resident of the Willows died Thursday, February 10, 2005 at his home. A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 North Adams Avenue with the Rev. Jon Seda officiating. Visitation will be from 4 ? 7 PM Monday, February 14, 2005 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue with a 5 PM Rosary and Scriptural Wake Service and a 7 PM Knights of Columbus Rosary. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the Donald J. Newbowers Memorial Fund. Interment will be in Elmwood ? St. Joseph Cemetery. Donald was born on June 8, 1929 the son of Arnold and Theresa (Reindl) Newbowers on the family farm near Manly. He attended school in Manly and graduated from Manly High School in 1947. He was a member of 4-H and his cattle that he showed at the Worth County Fair in Northwood were his pride and joy. Donald was involved with calves in 4-H for many years. On November 24, 1962 Donald was united in marriage to Sharon Broers at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly. He worked for the American Crystal Sugarbeet Plant and as a farmhand for Hebel Farms Inc until 1969. He then worked for the Soybean Plant from December of 1969 until he retired on November 2, 1990. Don was member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Sharon and Donald enjoyed their bus trips with the First Citizens Bank Heritage Club. They often would hop in the van for one day trips with an unknown destination. Donald and Sharon enjoyed spending time at home with each other. He collected tractors of any size, shape and every color. Donald liked to collect coins and he enjoyed his cars. Donald?s survivors include his wife Sharon, brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Nancy Broers also of Mason City; two nephews, 2 great nephews, 1 great niece and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and mother and father-in-law, Raymond and Beulah Broers.
