Donna Lou Rhodes, 67 of Mason City died Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services for Donna will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue with the Rev. Wendy Abrahamson of St. John?s Episcopal Church officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be two hours prior to service time at the funeral home on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to the family. Donna Lou Johnson was born April 27, 1937 the daughter of Hilbert and Beulah (Tonsager) Johnson in Germania Township, Minnesota. She attended the Eagle Bend High School in Eagle Bend, Minnesota and graduated the Class of 1955. Donna was united in marriage to Edwin Rhodes on September 28, 1956 in Eagle Bend, Minnesota. They moved to the Twin Cities where she was a school bus driver for ten years. In 1979 Donna and Edwin came to Mason City and Donna began working for Huffman Transportation. She retired from Huffman Transportation in 1997, as a school bus driver following 18 years of service. During her years as a bus driver Donna also picked up the Head Start Children and many handicapped children in the community. Rarely could she and Edwin go shopping without a child stopping to talk to her. Donna loved camping, fishing and crocheting. She was also a skilled cook and baker. Donna really enjoyed nature, she enjoyed to go horseback riding and loved to watch the birds, especially the cardinals. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Edwin Rhodes of Mason City; three sons, Allen, Jimmie and Randy Rhodes all of Mason City; two daughters, Kimberly McMurray and husband Todd of Mason City and Lou Ann Rhodes of Charles City; five grandchildren, Randi Lee and April Rhodes, Halie, Danielle and Amanda McMurray; two brothers, Jack Johnson of Eagle Bend, Minnesota, Richard Johnson and wife Lorraine of Keokuk, Iowa, a sister, Judy Hendry and husband Bill of Circle Pines, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilbert and Beulah Johnson and her step-father, Herman Trost.
