Donnabelle 'Deb Percival

Donabelle “Deb” Percival, 80, of Mason City, IA, died Saturday, September 7, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia Avenue, with Pastor Sean McRoberts officiating. Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Monday (September 9, 2013) at Major Erickson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church Women. Donnabelle was born February 15, 1933 in Creston, Iowa to Donald and Estella (Elftmann) Stearns. Moving with her parents to Waterloo in 1942, Donnabelle graduated from West High School in 1951. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI), was a graduate of St. Luke’s Methodist School of Nursing, in Cedar Rapids and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Iowa in 1957. Deb worked in numerous areas of nursing, remembered by many “as the night nurse who wore lavender jackets and had the purple stethoscope.” She retired from hospital nursing in February 1997. She was married to Dr. James A. Percival II on September 7, 1958 in Waterloo, Iowa. Deb was a member of First United Methodist Church where she served as President of United Methodist Women and was active in circle and commission activities. She also served in the church as the pianist on numerous occasions. She was a member of Beta Chapter Piano Club, PEO Chapter GN, Occident Study Club and several social bridge clubs. She thoroughly enjoyed getting together with friends to play bridge and Mahjong. Donnabelle was a former member of American Association of University Women, Maria Mitchell Study Club and served on the Public Health Nursing Board, Friends of the Library Board and Mayor Mendon’s Crime Commission. She was active in PTA serving as President of the PTA City Council during with time the Star Home Program was implemented in Mason City. Deb was a charter member of the Mohawk Booster Club serving as secretary. She also organized the initial physical exam program for the high school athletes. Many people in the community will remember Deb for her love of the color purple. She also enjoyed giving programs for groups. Probably the most familiar was the program she gave on “Stuff”. Deb was very devoted to and proud of her family. Survivors include her husband, Dr. James A. Percival II; two sons, Dr. Kevin Percival and his wife Carol Lynn of Clive, Iowa, and Kurt Percival and wife Carol Jean of New Hope, MN; her loving grandchildren, grandsons, Matt Percival and wife Kristin, Ben Percival and fiancée Courtney, Zach Percival, Isaac Percival and wife Chelsea and granddaughter, Madison; brother, Myron (Bill) and wife Helen and four nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew, Mark.

Cemetery:
Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church Women.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Monday (September 9, 2013) at Major Erickson Funeral Home.
