Doris E. Becker

MASON CITY: Doris E. Becker, 92, of 1000 N. Eisenhower Avenue, formerly of Olin, Iowa died Monday, October 16, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday at St. John?s Lutheran Church, Olin, Iowa with Rev. Jennifer Andreas officiating. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Lahey Funeral Home, 413 Walnut Street, Olin, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the Doris E. Becker Memorial Fund. Doris was born August 4, 1914 in Cleveland, Mississippi the daughter of William and Edna (Tucker) McKnight. She graduated from high school in Rayville, Louisiana then went on to nursing school in Vicksburg, Mississippi graduating in 1941. Doris worked as a registered nurse in Louisiana and married Harold Becker in 1943 in Monroe, Louisiana. The Becker?s moved to Olin, Iowa in 1948 where Harold farmed and Doris worked for Mercy Hospital in Anamosa. She then went on to work for Drs. Brown and Bailey in Anamosa until her retirement 1979. After her husband?s death in 1991, she moved to Louisiana to live with her sister. In 2004, Doris moved to Mason City to be near her family. Doris will be well remembered by her many friends as a caring and gracious lady. Doris is survived by a son, Denny Becker and wife Kathy of Mason City; grandson, Justin Becker and wife Jennifer of Mason City; granddaughter, Jennifer Schornhorst of Saline, Michigan; great grandson, Jack Schornhorst of Saline, Michigan; sisters, Catherine McKnight of Rayville, Louisiana and Sarah Lou Turner of Seagraves, Texas. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; brothers, Walter in infancy, Dewey and Norman; sisters, Ruby Clack and Lottie Stokes; grandson-in-law, James Schornhorst.
