Doris E. Lumley, 94, of Cedar Falls, IA, formerly of Mason City, IA, died Friday, October 11, 2013, at the Martin Health Center (Western Home Communities) in Cedar Falls. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 18, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue – Mason City, with Rev. Dan Gerrietts officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue – Mason City. A private family inurnment will take place at the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood, IA. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Valley Hospice, 2101 Kimball Ave., Waterloo, IA 50702 or Western Home Communities, 5300 South Main St., Cedar Falls, IA 50613. Doris was born January 22, 1919, in Northwood, IA, the daughter of Ole and Clara (Nelson) Kjerland. Doris was baptized and confirmed at Northwood Lutheran Church. She graduated from Northwood High School in 1937 and continued her education at the Waterloo School of Beauty Culture. She was united in marriage to DeLos Lumley on January 17, 1942 in Albert Lea, MN. The Lumleys moved to Mason City, IA. in 1944 where they raised their children. Doris worked for the Mason City School System as Cafeteria Cashier/Baker. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she belonged to Rebecca circle and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Doris enjoyed recreational vehicle travel, winters in Phoenix, AZ. hand crafts, gardening, baking and cooking, playing cards and Word Find. She was especially fond of preparing lefse for holidays and church bazaars. Family and friends were very important to Doris and she looked forward to making memories. Doris is survived by her children: Douglas Lumley and wife Ruth of San Leandro, CA, Susie Matachek and husband Frank of Cape Coral, FL, Kaye Haskins and husband Barry of Waterloo, IA, and Cheryl Graner of Glendale, AZ; step-children: Gary D. Lumley and wife Marlys of Urbandale, IA and Sherry Schoneman and husband Mark of Clear Lake, IA, 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great grandchildren; 3 step-great great grandchildren and many special friends, neighbors, nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband DeLos in 1996, a son in infancy: Bruce Allan; 4 brothers: Reginald, Merlin, Donald and Harold Kjerland; 1 sister: Rachel Djuren and son-in-law: Jack Graner.
