MASON CITY: Dorothy A. Kennedy, 88, of Mason City, died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at home. A memorial Mass will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday May 10, 2014 at Epiphany Parish, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 302-5th Street SE with Rev. John Gossman, Rev. Mark Ressler and Rev. Don Klein concelebrants. There will be no visitation, as Mrs. Kennedy has donated her body to the Department of Anatomy, University of Iowa, Iowa City. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa. Dorothy was born January 25, 1926 in Reading, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Michael and Anna (Javik) Roboski. She graduated from Reading High School, then went on to receive her BSN degree from Philadelphia General Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While working as an OR nurse in Reading, Dorothy met Dr. Edwin Kennedy who was serving there as an intern. They were married October 8, 1953 in Danville, Indiana. Upon completion of Ed’s medical residency training in Indianapolis, Indiana followed by a brief stay in Wausau, Wisconsin, the family moved to Mason City in 1957, where they settled and raised their 3 children, Jeff, Julie, and Tim. Through the years, Dorothy was actively involved in her parish, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, PEO, T.T.T., and donated her time to numerous local charities. The family would like to offer specials thanks to Brad and Patti Peterson for their loving care and help through the years. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Dr. Edwin D. Kennedy of Mason City; children, Dr. Jeffrey D. (Carolyn) Kennedy of Carmel, Indiana, Julia A. (James) Caputo of San Diego, California, and Dr. Timothy J. (Stephanie) Kennedy of Green Bay, Wisconsin; 9 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and 3 siblings.
