MASON CITY: Dorothy A. Madson Haxton, 86 of Mason City, died Sunday (November 30, 2008) at the IOOF Home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday (December 3, 2008) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Kathy Graves of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 6:00 PM Tuesday (December 2, 2008) at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Dorothy Haxton Memorial Fund.
Dorothy was born October 18, 1922 in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, the daughter of Frederick and Gladys (Koeshall) Laemmerhirt. She attended country school in Wisconsin. She moved to Mason City in 1951. Dorothy was married to Victor Madson, until his death in 1978. On June 7, 1981, she married Donovan Haxton Sr. at the Little Brown Church. She worked for Fareway for 25 years before retiring in 1984. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a circle member. She enjoyed plants, traveling the world, and making Lefse. She had a certificate stating she was the Master Lefse Maker. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, dancing at the Surf, bowling, playing bingo and golf (hunting for balls).
She is survived by her children: Larry Madson and wife Carmen of Mason City, Gene Madson and wife Bobbe of Clear Lake; 4 grandchildren: Dana Hettinger and husband Joe of Round Lake, IL, Chris Madson and Fiance Angie of Blue Earth, MN, Kory Madson and wife Kelli of Urbandale, IA, and Kelly of Clear Lake; 2 great grandchildren: Ben of Urbandale, and Nick of Blue Earth, MN; one brother: William Frederick Laemmerhirt of Flagstaff, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband: Victor Madson in 1978, her second husband: Donovan Haxton in 2002; one sister: Bernice Hansen.
