Dorothy E. Olson

Dorothy E. Olson, 85, of Mason City, died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the IOOF Home. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday (December 14, 2007) at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Keith Scott officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Inurnment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Dorothy E. Olson memorial fund. Dorothy was born December 27, 1921 on a farm near Buffalo Center, Iowa. She was the daughter of T.P. (Short) Liverca and Zelma (Sally) Gosselin Liverca. Dorothy attended school in Buffalo Center. The school that she attended was the first consolidated school west of the Mississippi river. She graduated from High School in 1940. Dorothy married Lloyd Olson of Rapid City, SD on April 18, 1987. He preceded her in death. Lloyd had worked on Dorothy?s father?s farm when she was a teenager and they dated at that time. Half a life time later and both widowed, they were able to meet again and rekindle their friendship in marriage. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Marjorie. Dorothy is survived by her four children, Judy (Robert) Duda, Dari Marino, Holly Bradbury all of Mason City, and Jeff (JoAnn) Jensen who reside in Illinois; one brother, Jim (Jo) Liverca; and one sister, Ruth Wilson; seven grandchildren, Mike (Angie) Duda, Daniel (Sue) Duda, Shannon Duda and Justin Bradbury all of Mason City, Eric (Paula) Jensen, Cory (Karrah) Jensen and Megan Jensen all of Illinois; nine great-grandchildren, Louis, Jamie, David, Lindsey, Kelly, Aleah of Mason City and Jordan, Lainey and Avery of Illinois. Prior to moving to Mason City, Dorothy went to a Methodist Church in Buffalo Center where she taught Sunday school. After moving to Mason City she attended and taught Sunday school at Grace Methodist Church in Mason City. In 1987 she began attending church at Wesley United Methodist Church because she relocated and was closer to Wesley. Dorothy was very active in her church, she was the past president of the Golden Age organization and participating in many others. When first arriving in Mason City, Dorothy went to work at the Decker?s meat packing plant and worked there until it closed. She then went to work at Mercy Hospital and retired there in 1986 after fifteen years of service. She was very involved in helping organize parties and picnics for the Mercy retirees. Dorothy enjoyed traveling in their camper where she would stop to read any historical marker that they came along and stopped to take in every beautiful view that came up. She also enjoyed fishing, and joining other family members yearly at a cabin in Wisconsin. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Dorothy was a very compassionate person with her heart going out to anyone in need. Dorothy has left her earthly home and moved onto her spiritual home, but if you need her, just ask, she will be there. She loved being around her family and participating in church.
