Dorothy Helen Peterson, 85, of 1120 East State Street, died Thursday, August 10, 2006 at St. Mary?s Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church 329 East State Streeet with Pastor Sid Bohls officiating. Interment will be in Rockwell Cemetery, Rockwell, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church on Tuesday one hour before the service. Memorials may be given to the Dorothy H. Peterson Memorial Fund. Dorothy was born September 26, 1920 in Rockwell, Iowa, the daughter of George and Bertha (Brunstein) Ficken. She was raised in Rockwell, moving to Mason City in 1930 where she attended school. Dorothy married John C. Peterson October 17, 1937 in Mason City. She worked as a nurses? aide in the emergency room and later as a unit clerk in surgery at St. Joseph?s Mercy Hospital. Dorothy retired in 1982 after 34 years of service. Dorothy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Genealogy Society. She enjoyed embroidering, cross-stitching and Hardanger. She also had the opportunity to visit her father?s home in Germany. Dorothy had a special bond with her granddaughter, Heather, whom she helped raise. She was loved by her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all. She is survived by her children, Richard J. Peterson of Grants Pass, Oregon, Beverly A. Adkins and husband William of Westminister, Colorado, Leslie W. Peterson and wife Alice of Castle Rock, Colorado and Linda D. Angell and husband Gary of Mason City; grandchildren, Heather Angell, Erika White, Mark Peterson, Julie Papini, Christopher Peterson, Jon and Jennifer Peterson; 3 step-grandchildren, Kristina, Chad and Curt Angell; 9 great grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren; sister, Anna Burns of Dryden, Ontario Canada; several nieces & nephews. She will be greeted in heaven by her parents, husband, John; brothers, John, William, George, Albert and Henry; grandson, Brian Peterson and daughter-in-law, Yvonne Peterson.
