Dorothy J. Carpenter

Mason City Dorothy Carpenter, age 71, of Mason City, died Thursday, December 24, 2009, at her home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, with Msgr. Joseph Slepicka officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM 7:00 PM on Monday, December 28, 2009 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the Dorothy Carpenter memorial fund in care of the family.

Dorothy was born October 17, 1938, in Mason City, the daughter of John and Emma (Kiefer) Carpenter. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1956. Dorothy worked for Shopko for 8 years and Iowa Kemper for over 30 years. Dorothy was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She enjoyed family get-togethers, spending time with her family (especially her great nieces and nephews), shopping at Wal-Mart, and taking pictures & putting together photo albums. Dorothy was proud of her Disney trip she took when she was 65.

She is survived by her siblings: John Patterson Sr. of Mason City, Betty Brierly of Nora Springs, Robert Carpenter and wife Judith of New Orleans, Joanne Carpenter of Mason City, Jerry Carpenter and wife Lovella Mike of Mason City. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers: Jim and Jackie Carpenter
