Dorothy M. Nedved

MASON CITY Dorothy M. Nedved, age 97, of Mason City, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Memorial services will be held 9:30 A.M. Saturday (May 22, 2010) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Kenneth Gehling, Chaplain Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, officiating. There will be no visitation, per her wishes her body was cremated. Inurnment will be at the St. Johns Catholic Cemetery in Duncan, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Dorothy Nedved memorial fund in care of the family or to Hospice of North Iowa.

Dorothy was born September 23, 1912, in Hancock County, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Emma (Wellik) Jakoubek. She attended school in Hayfield, IA. Dorothy married William Nedved on November 3, 1931 in Duncan, IA. Over the years, Dorothy lived in Ft. Atkinson, West Union, Garner, and in 1964 she moved to Mason City. She worked in housekeeping at Mercy Hospital for nearly 14 years before retiring in 1977. Dorothy was a devoted mother of five. She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy was a great cook and also enjoyed crocheting. She loved African violets, at one time she had over 100 of them that she cared for.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Lloyd Nedved and wife Pat of Nevis, MN, Cletus Nedved and wife Carolyn of Fertile, IA, Paul Nedved and wife Donna of Nisswa, MN, Carol Follmuth and husband James of Mason City; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren; 1 sister: Eleanor Nelson of Thornton, IA. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William; a daughter: Esther VerHoef Noling; granddaughter; great grandson; two sisters: Abbie Kral and Helen Oshiem; brother: William Jakoubek; 3 brothers-in-law; 1 sister-in-law; 2 sons-in-law.

The family would like to thank the staff at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, the doctors and nurses at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Rev. Kenneth Gehling & Rev. Michael Schueller, and the staff at Heritage Care Center for the wonderful care Dorothy received over the past few years.
