Douglas Dean Gobeli, 59, of Mason City, died Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa after a long battle with Leukemia. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th Street NW, Mason City, IA. Interment will follow at Meservey Cemetery in Meservey, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.
Doug was born November 12, 1957 to Leonard and Marlene (Kaduce) Gobeli in Belmond, Iowa. He attended and graduated from the Mason City School District. Doug worked construction for many years, most recently with Gobeli Construction. He was a tax preparer at Gobeli Tax Service, and did garden tilling and snow removal for Gobeli Brothers. He also worked for Winnebago Industries, Milwaukee Railroad, and Rock Island Railroad. Many may remember Doug in his younger years as a bouncer at several local bars.
Doug was a Facebook enthusiast, spending many hours entertaining and being entertained. He had a great love for animals, would bring anything home, and wanted to keep them all. Doug had a passion for farming, enjoyed baling hay, and most of all he enjoyed driving the tractor and being on a farm.
Doug was an avid sports fan, who loved watching the Houston Rockets, Astros, and Texans, as well as the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He loved Rock and Roll music and attending concerts. Doug had an extensive rock & roll and sports memorabilia collection. Over the years he enjoyed playing golf, softball and riding his bike.
Douglas is survived by his mother, Marlene Gobeli of Mason City; siblings, James (Jody) Gobeli of Belmond, IA, Dale Gobeli of Belmond, IA, Teresa (Chip) Van Horn of Chula Vista, CA, Jeffrey Gobeli of Houston, TX, Laura Gobeli of Houston, TX; sister in law, Kris Smith of Tomball, TX; aunts and uncle, Daryl (Norma Jean) Gobeli, Jeanyce Gobeli, Sandra Gobeli, Cindy Sanders; nieces and nephews; Lance, Jennifer, Tatin, Timothy, Jesse, Jake, Anna, Jenna, Amelia, Josh, Tarah; many great nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Gobeli was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Gobeli; grandparents, Lester (Avis) Gobeli, Johannes (Bessie) Kaduce; brother, Calvin Smith; uncles, Allan, David, Donald Gobeli; aunts, Mavis Weaver, Marge Gobeli; nephew, Michael Gobeli and niece, Bess Amanda Van Horn.
