Dr. John Peaslee Graves, 81, of 1509 Emerald Court, died Monday (March 15, 2004) at home. Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 1st St. NE, with Rev. Samuel Hamilton-Poore officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will take place in Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque, Iowa at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army Adult Day Care Health Center in Mason City or Hospice of North Iowa. Dr. Graves was born April 1, 1922 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Alan H. and Ruth (Peterson) Graves. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School, Harvard College in 1943 and Harvard Medical School in 1946. Dr. Graves interned at Boston Children?s Hospital and completed his residency at Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore and Children?s Medical Center in Boston. He served as medical officer attached to the Berlin Air Lift, Weissbaden, Germany from 1949 to 1950. Following his discharge, Dr. Graves began practicing Pediatrics in Dubuque and practiced till his retirement in 1984. He also worked with Hillcrest Children?s Services in Dubuque for many years. He moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and began to practice again in 1988 and continued thru 1996 with the Minneapolis Health Department working with low income and immigrant children?s clinics around Minneapolis. Dr. Graves and wife Susan moved to Mason City in 1999. He enjoyed playing piano and playing the clarinet with a group in Dubuque called The Dad Beats. His hobbies included woodworking, drawing, painting, gardening, horseback riding, skiing and music. Dr. Graves is survived by his wife, Susan Graves of Mason City; son, John P. Graves Jr. of Parker, CO; daughter, Anne McAuliff and husband Andrew of Waterville, ME; son, Hazen Graves and wife Kathy of Minneapolis, MN; step-sons, Paul Bosveld and wife Mary of Dubuque; Mark Bosveld and wife Jeanette of Gaithersburg, MD; 5 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren. Dr. Graves was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife, Jane and 1 brother, Alan Graves
