Duane Richard Link, 65, of Mason City, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at the Manly Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at First Covenant Church, 411 South Ohio, of which his family were charter members, with Pastor Marty Garrett officiating. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, July 20, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Duane R. Link memorial fund in care of the family.
Duane R. Link was born July 20, 1943, in Mason City, IA, the son of Almon and Nina Floy (Vaughn) Link. He attended and graduated high school in Mason City. Being mechanically inclined, his working career led him to be a service station operator. He enjoyed taking road trips on his Harley-Davidson, playing his guitar, reading Louis LAmour novels as well as sci-fi books, spending time at the drive-in in Osage, filling the neighbors tires with air when theyd go flat, and selling some of the last available 20 oz. glass pop bottles. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is survived by two sisters: Sharon (Gail) Gordon, and Ellen Blackbourn; nieces, Laurene (Neil) Kruger, Holly Lewis, K.C. Blackbourn, and Erin Blackbourn; nephews, Jared (Jessica) Gordon, and Nick (Erena) Gordon; uncle, C. Merle Vaughn; aunt, Mary Ann Vaughn; many cousins; great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; niece and Godchild, Gaye Gordon-Rendon.
