Edgar D. Reed, 88, of 302 2nd St. NE Mason City, died Friday (February 6, 2004) at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware, with Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Interment will be in Concord Cemetery, Garner. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church one hour before the service. Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Hospice of North Iowa or Good Shepherd Telephone Reassurance. Ed was born June 7, 1915 in Garner, Iowa the son of Clair Daniel and Josephine Etta (Brede) Reed. He graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1934. Ed married Alma A. Hollatz June 7, 1941 in rural Garner. They moved to Mason City in 1945. Ed worked for American Crystal Sugar Company for 17 years then in the maintenance department at Mercy Medical Center, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee, tax review board for the city of Mason City, served on the North Iowa Community Credit Union Board of Directors for 35 years, serving as chairman for 30 years and enjoyed fishing. He is survived by 3 sons, Daniel Reed and wife Pat of Clinton, Phillip Reed and wife Sheryl of Fort Dodge, Lanny Reed and wife Barbara of Clinton; daughter, Teri Reed of Mason City; grandchildren, Danielle Crozier, Chad Reed, Randi Leimkuhl, Brad Reed, Matthew Reed, Michael Reed, Dr. Lori Cagley, Lisa Murdock, Lance Reed, Jami Maifeld and Jacob Peterson; 5 great granddaughters; 2 great grandsons; 3 sisters, Maxine Anderson of Council Bluffs, Margaret Rice of Omaha, NE, Phyllis Edwards of Castro Valley, CA; sister-in-laws, Edna Albers of Clear Lake, Ethel Schoenwetter of Klemme, Ardith Toppin and husband Wayne of Ventura, Stella Lemke and husband Byrnes of Mason City, Pearl DeGroote and husband Darrell of Corwith, Helen Harms and husband Ray of Clear Lake. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alma; 2 brothers, Richard Sr. and Max Reed. .
