Edgar Herbert Lomen, 82, of 630 Briarstone Drive #101 - Mason City, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, surrounded by his wife and daughters. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 440 N. Illinois Avenue, with Pastor Scott Davis officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held following the services. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Edgar Lomen Memorial Fund, in care of the family. Edgar was born on November 3, 1929, in Ottumwa, IA, the son of Herbert Orlando and Marthine Lomen. He attended Jefferson Elementary School, Monroe Junior High School, and Mason City High School - graduating in 1948. He continued his education at Moody Bible College in Chicago, IL - where he met his wife Alice. They were married on July 27, 1950, in Zion, IL., and have celebrated 62 years of marriage. Ed was employed at several Mason City businesses: Skelgas, Farmers Mutual Insurance Company, Sears, Fuller Brush Company, Coca-Cola Bottling Company, and was then employed as a sales and route man for Marshall and Swift Laundry and Dry Cleaning for 28 years, retiring in 1989. During his retirement years, he drove for Cimmaron Coaches, driving railroad men to their destinations. Ed loved to drive. Ed was a charter member of the Grace Baptist Church, now known as Grace Evangelical Free Church in Mason City. He was a past member of the Church Board and served as Sunday School Teacher, Greeter, and Usher. He was a former member of The Gideons and also enjoyed the Prime Time Bible Study Group for seniors at Grace. In his later years, he will be remembered as sitting at the East door of the church - serving as a greeter every Sunday until he became too ill to be there. Ed loved to go camping with his family. The family has many memories of camping with grandpa and grandma. The Lomen’s wintered in Arizona for 8 years and the family spent many vacations with them. Ed also had a motorcycle throughout his life and was a devoted Harley Davidson fan. He treasured his sweatshirt and t-shirt with those emblems given to him by his grandson Rob. He wore them constantly. Ed is survived by his wife: Alice (Hellin) Lomen; 2 daughters: Ruth Anne Andolino (Peter) of Louisville, KY, and Rachel Lomen (Thomas Peterson) of Des Moines, IA; his grandchildren: Ryan (Rob) Olson (Luisa) of Omaha, NE, Rissa Olson of Palm Gardens, FL, Racee Francis (Ben) Palm Gardens, FL, Elizabeth Christensen (Robbie Gennet) of Agoura Hills, CA, Madyson Schmida of Des Moines, IA, and Hunter Schmida of Des Moines, IA; his great-grandchildren: Rozlyn Olson of Omaha, NE, Ryker Francis of Palm Gardens, FL, Kieren Gennet of Aqoura Hills, CA, and Sebastian Barbosa of Omaha, NE. The entire family was blessed to spend time with Ed at his daughter’s wedding (Ruth Anne) five days prior to his sudden passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one granddaughter: Rorry Olson.
