Edith “Edie” K. Meeker, 96, of Mason City, IA, died Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the Good Shepherd Health Center.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 329 E. State Street, with Pastor Burton Everist officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the church service.
Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Edith was born September 23, 1921, in Soby, Denmark, the daughter of Niels Peter and Johanna (Jakobsen) Nielsen. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1939. On June 1, 1940, Edie was united in marriage to Bruce L. Meeker in Waterloo, IA. Over the years, Edie worked in sales for Bergos and J.C. Penney until her retirement in 1985. Edie enjoyed spending time with her family and looked forward to the annual family summer picnic at East Park. She also enjoyed quilting for Lutheran World Relief, needlework and caring for her husband in his final years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she belonged to Priscilla’s Circle and M and M’s. She was also a member of the retired Penney group.
Edie is survived by her children: Patricia Krieger of Iowa Falls, IA; Jay Meeker and wife Jill of Cedar Rapids, IA; Robert Meeker and wife Marsha Acord of Mount Vernon, IA; LuAnn Meeker Gast and husband Bob of Cresco, IA; Michael Meeker and wife Faith of Kenosha, WI; and Ronald Meeker and wife Barb of Elkhart, IA; 14 grandchildren: John Krieger, Kari Beth Krieger, Debbie Tuerler, Vicki Bierie, Krista Sorensen, Jeff Meeker, Scott Meeker, Steve Meeker, Alma Buco, Grace Gast, Eric Meeker, Katie Meeker, Casey Meeker, and Kayla Meeker; 18 great grandchildren; and brother: Paul Nielsen and wife Marie of Mason City. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2014; son-in-law: Rollie Krieger; daughter-in-law: Mary Meeker; brother: Dane Nielsen; sister: Alice Waters; and infant granddaughter.
