Edna L. Sherer, 86, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at the IOOF Home. A gathering of family and friends will be from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, and continue at the Clarion Inn, 2101 4th St SW, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM with lunch and a time of sharing. Per her wishes, her body was cremated. Memorials may be directed to the IOOF Home, 1037 19th Street SW, Mason City, IA 50401. Edna was born February 25, 1928, in Madison, IL, the daughter of Edward and Beatrice (Harwell) Chilcutt. She attended school in Poplar Bluff, MO. Edna married Howard D. Sherer in May of 1947, and to this union three children were born: Michael, Larry and Linda. They divorced in 1974. Edna loved working for Kenyon’s Meat Locker in Mason City. She later became employed with AMPI, where she worked for 16 years, before her retirement in 1994. In 1998, she decided to work at K-Mart, where she made lots of friends. After 7 years, she retired in 2005. Edna enjoyed gardening, cooking, Elvis Presley and vacationing with her grandson, Nick. Edna is survived by 3 children: Michael Sherer and wife Christi of Council Bluffs, IA, Larry Sherer and wife Lynette of Maxwell, IA, and Linda Ward and husband Bob of Mason City; 9 grandchildren: Angie, Michelle, Mandy, Travis, Erika, Tara, Nick, Michael and Aaron; and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; 5 sisters: Easter, Alma, Mildred, Zelma and Betty; and lifelong friend: Pearl Casey.
