Rockwell Edward Hegtvedt, 78, of Rockwell, died on Friday, September 12, 2008 at his home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 15, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 Elm St. Rockwell, IA with Rev. Donald Bruggeman officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM 8:00 PM on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave with a Scriptural Wake Service held at 7:00 P.M... Memorials may be directed to the Edward Hegtvedt memorial fund.

Edward O. Hegtvedt was born June 26, 1930 in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Eddie and Palma (Hillestad) Hegtvedt. He graduated from Clear Lake in 1949. He married Lois Coyle on January 13, 1951 in Manly, Iowa. Edward and Lois lived and farmed the same land for 52 years before moving to Rockwell. He farmed his entire life, but also worked for various trucking companies, including Mitchell Transport where he earned the 1 Million Mile safe driving award. Ed and Lois enjoyed wintering in Alamo, Texas and stayed there for several winters.
He enjoyed camping, collecting fishing reels and caps, fishing, visiting casinos, and playing softball in his younger days. Ed loved socializing with his friends and had a great sense of humor and wit to him and could always be heard telling a joke or two. Ed loved his family and especially his grandchildren who were very important to him. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Edward is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Mike and Wendy Hegtvedt, Pat and Dawn Hegtvedt, Dan and Laurie Hegtvedt, Deb and David Watters, and Sandy and Kenny Nielsen; grandchildren, Stacy and Derek Pronga, Amy and Mark Alejandro, Aaron Hegtvedt (Gretta), Derek Hegtvedt (Kristy), Matthew and Tessa Haller, Lindsey and Casey Edwards, Jordan Haller, Kyle Hegtvedt, Katlyn Hegtvedt, Kristan Hegtvedt, Andrea Watters, Brent Watters and fianc Molly, Mindi Watters, Abbie Nielsen, Spencer Nielsen, and Nicholas Nielsen; great grandchildren, Jacob Pronga, Braden Pronga, Addison Alejandro, Avery Hegtvedt, and Parker Haller; brother David Hegtvedt and his wife, Marilyn; brother and sister in-laws, Dean and Audrey Coyle, Helen Arnett and Frances Coyle; and several nieces and nephews.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Palma, and parents in-law John and Grace Coyle; nephews, Tim Hegtvedt, Pat Coyle and Tom Coyle; niece, Penny Coyle and brother-in-laws, John Arnett and John (Jack) Coyle.
