MASON CITY ? Edwin W. Ficken, 92, of 14137 Spruce Ave., passed away November 1, 2005 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held Monday (November 7, 2005) at 11:00 A.M. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 North Delaware with Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church on Monday. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Edwin was born on November 13, 1912 in rural Cerro Gordo County, the son of William and Anna M. (Lubben) Ficken. Ed attended rural school and graduated from Bath No. 6 in Bath Township in Cerro Gordo County. He married Rosie Heimbuch on June 20, 1943 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City. To this marriage two children were born, Linda, and Edwin. Ed was a lifetime farmer, worked at the American Sugar Beet Factory during campaigns, and also the Green Coal Company of Mason City. He was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he served as an usher for many years, was a member of the Fellowship Club and was also on the church building committee when the church was constructed. He was a life long member of Farm Bureau and the National Soybean and Corn Growers Association and a former member of the Pleasant Ridge Club. Ed enjoyed family and home, traveling, gardening, hunting, fishing, reading, farming and the great outdoors. Ed is survived by his daughter, Linda Koopman and husband Garold of Mason City; son, Edwin L. Ficken of San Dimas, California; grandchildren, Elizabeth Hughes and husband Stephen of Roanoke, Virginia, and Philip Koopman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; great-grandchild, Ethan Edwin Hughes; sister, Gertrude Stevens and husband Edward of Mason City; brothers, Gilbert Luker of Mason City and Arthur Ficken and wife Dorothy Jo of Dallas, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. Ed is preceded in death by his wife Rosie; parents; and sister, Lucy Green. The family would like to express a special thanks to Hospice for their kindness and care and also to Emily Pearce for her help in care giving over the past year.
