Elinore V. Christensen, 89 of Mason City died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center ? North Iowa. Funeral services for Elinore will be held 1:30 P.M., Saturday, April 3, 2004 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 329 East State Street with the Rev. Paul Finger officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to services at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Senior Activity Center. Elinore was born February 18, 1915 the daughter of in Plattsmouth, Nebraska the daughter of Alois and Maria (Lopour) Smetana. She graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1933 after which she attended the University of Omaha. Elinore taught grades one through eight in schools near Plattsmouth for two years. On July 11, 1936, Elinore married Arlie Christensen in Glenwood, Iowa. The couple moved to Mason City in 1941. Elinore was active in Women?s Organizations at Immanuel Lutheran Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church. She also served on nursing home programs for Church Women United. She was also active at the Mason City Senior Activity Center. Elinore was an avid bridge player and immensely enjoyed her weekly games with dear friends. She also loved playing pinochle with friends in her earlier years. Elinore was very proud of her Czech heritage and was fluent in the Czech language. She loved dancing to polka music, and was famous for her rye bread, dill pickles and sauerkrout. Elinore is survived by her four children: Ronald of Lincoln, Massachusetts; Dennis of Cedar Rapids; Larry of Victor, Idaho; and Mary Lou of Medford, Massachusetts; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arlie, sisters, Pauline, Blanche, Helen and Ann and brother Alois and Joseph.
