Ella Elizabeth Barrett Muehe

MASON CITY: Ella Elizabeth Barrett Muehe, 100, of 302 2nd St. N.E., died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Good Shepherd Health Center.  A funeral mass will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams with Rev. Jon Seda officiating.  Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue.  A family rosary will be held at 3:45 PM with a parish rosary service at 5:30 PM.  Memorials may be directed to Holy Family Catholic Church.  Ella was born August 6, 1907 in Crystal Lake, Iowa the daughter of Michael Joseph and Mary Anne (Byrnes) Barrett.  She graduated from Crystal Lake High School then furthered her education by receiving nursing and anesthesia training.  Ella received her degree as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist.  She worked as an RN   Anesthetist for several years in cities including Ft. Worth, Texas, Battleworth, Michigan and Columbus, Ohio.  She returned to Mason City where she worked and would later retire from St. Josephs Mercy Hospital.  Ella married August Gus Muehe December 28, 1946 in Forest City, Iowa.  Ella was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
 
Ella is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
 
Ella was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gus, 4 sisters, Loretta Keleher, Bernadette Smith, Irene Barrett and Mary Barrett, 3 brothers, John, James and Msgr. Norbert Barrett.
