Erna Clara Younger

Ernie” (Erna Clara) Younger, 86, of Nora Springs, was promoted to glory Monday, April 4, 2016. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 PM Friday April 8, 2016 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Nora Springs with the Pastor David Werges officiating. A gathering will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Ernie Younger Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Ernie, and identical twin “Emmy” (Edna Bertha) Naumann, were born to Sarah (Flecher) and Chris Naumann on June 27, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska. She graduated from South High School in Omaha and was employed several years as a bank teller there. Ernie and Harold Younger were united in marriage on August 20, 1948 and enjoyed 67 years together. They were blessed with a daughter, Susan, and a son, Fred.

Ernie was an avid horse enthusiast. She spent many years riding and training horses; later raising Arabians and mules. The horse barn was like her “second home”. She was also a skilled seamstress, creating many wonderful quilts and crocheted projects. While raising her family, Ernie made lasting friendships in the community on her Avon routes.

A long-time member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Ernie always found time for Friendly Circle, Quilting Group, and the Golden Jubilee Organization. She had a passion for music and could often be heard playing the organ or one of her accordions.

Ernie loved to entertain. She was known for the great stories she told. Her joyous laughter and “nice to meet ya” saying were signature trademarks of Ernie’s love for life.

Left to cherish her memories and honor her life are her husband of 67 years, Harold; her daughter, Susan, daughter-in-law, Judy, a grandson, Cole and his wife, Kaci, and many close friends. Ernie was welcomed in heaven by her son, Fred Younger, twin sister Emmy Naumann, and two dear aunts, Bertha and Clara.
