Esther M. Wodtke, 82, of 17 N. Willowgreen Court, died Monday, October 31, 2005 at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa. Upon her wishes her body was cremated and there will be no services. A gathering of friends and family will be held Thursday (November 3, 2005) from 4 ? 6 PM, at Major Erickson Funeral Home 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Esther M. Wodtke memorial fund. Alice Esther Wodtke, known as Etter, was born January 26, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Harold I. and Esther (Brinkley) Markey. She grew up near Philadelphia with her parents, and 2 older sisters, Jane and Marie. She attended Cedar Crest College and graduated in 1944 with a major in home economics. She married Sidney R. Bowen, Jr. in 1944 and moved to Mason City in 1947. She was a deacon in the Presbyterian, homemaker, and bore 2 children, Sidney and Anne. She married G. Kelley Wodtke on March 31, 1973 and moved to Cedar Rapids where they lived until 1996, when they moved back to Mason City to be near friends. Etter was a member of PEO, an avid bridge player, a crossword puzzle worker, and reader. She loved spending her summers at Clear Lake. She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, sister-in-law, Jean Ferring (Cedar Rapids, IA); her 2 children, Sidney Bowen (Wayland, MA) and Anne Bowen (Laramie, WY) and stepson, Griff Wodtke (Millvalley, CA); 4 grand children, Chris Wodtke, Alyssa Wodtke, Gardiner Bowen, Coleman Bowen, and 1 great-grand child.. Etter was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Jane Freeman, and Marie Boyd. Major Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
