MASON CITY Esther M. Borcherding, 97, of Mason City, died Sunday, December 26, 2010, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday (December 29, 2010) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. with Pastor Paul Nelson of St. James Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be held in Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Esther was born January 25, 1913 in Sheffield, Iowa, the daughter of William H. and Anna (Ricklefs) Eickmeyer. She attended country schools. She was married to Harry A. Borcherding on April 21, 1932 in Hampton, Iowa; they moved to Mason City from Sheffield in 1945. Esther was always positive, very giving, hardworking, and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful baker and pies, rolls, cookies and candies were her specialities. She also was a talented seamstress. Esther and her husband Harry always enjoyed there annual trip to Cass Lake in Northern Minnesota. She was a long-time active member of St. James Lutheran Church. Esther enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Esther is survived by her children, Glenn Borcherding and wife Susan of Mason City and Barbara TeKippe and husband Burton Jr. of Mason City, and special daughter, Cheryl Byers of Kentucky; grandchildren, Jean Wuertzer of husband Mike of Peosta, IA, Cynthia Long and husband Bob of Dacula, GA, Robert Borcherding and wife Theresa of Cedar Falls, IA, Kimberly Bautista and husband Rico of Phoenix, AZ, Sheryl Stokesbary and husband Steven M.D. of Dakota Dunes, SD, Sean TeKippe of Sioux Falls, SD; step-grandchildren, Scott Greeves and Leah Greeves of Tempe, AZ; great-grandchildren, Michael Wuertzer, Britney and Bailey Borcherding, Noah Borcherding and Jordan Hardy, Isabel and Benjamin Stokesbary and Gabriella Bautista; brother-in-law, Ralph Borcherding and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry, in 1991; and brother, Edward Eickmeyer.
