MASON CITY ? Evelyn A. Kephart, 97 of Mason City passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2004, at the I.O.O.F. Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 4, 2004, at the First Christian Church, 318 North Adams with the Rev. Bill Kanne officiating. Visitation for Evelyn will be from 4:00 PM ? 6:00 PM on Friday, December 3, 2004 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church or Hospice of North Iowa. Evelyn was born September 5, 1907, the daughter of Louis C. and Ellen (Piel) Crepow in Mason City. She attended school in Mason City and was united in marriage to Glen J. Kephart on March 28, 1925, in Austin, Minnesota. Evelyn worked for several retail stores in Mason City including Merkels, Gildners, and Bergos. Evelyn was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church where she was active in the women?s circle. She was also a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Evelyn prided herself on never missing an election and furthered her interest by becoming an election worker, she even voted in this last election. During the 1940?s, Evelyn played and managed the Mason City Independent Basketball Team. She also coached two seasons of basketball at St. Joseph?s High School. Evelyn volunteered at Mercy Hospital, logging over 1500 volunteer hours. She was a regular volunteer at the Community Kitchen and did so since its? beginning. Evelyn had a real love for quilting, knitting, and playing bridge; she was even quilting and playing bridge just two weeks ago. She loved spending the summers at Clear Lake and especially enjoyed the Thursday afternoon coffee group at the I.O.O.F. Home. The family would like to thank Mary Jane Porter for being a true, kind friend and caregiver and Ann Moore for her many special visits. Sincere thanks to Sharon Olson, who visited Evelyn many times, making sure her hair was always nice and to Lisa Balduff who took time to visit Evelyn often. A very special thanks to Hospice of North Iowa for the exceptional care and concern that Evelyn received. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Tom Kephart and wife Sue of Holt, Michigan; son-in-law, Cooney Balduf of Madrid, Iowa; her eight grandchildren, Todd Kephart, Candy Hinderman, Blain, Barry and Brent Balduf, Lorie Gray, Stacey Barry and Kelly Kephart; eighteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen Kephart; son, Glen Kephart Jr., daughter Ardeen Balduf and four sisters and one brother.
