Evelyn M. Bartusek, 89 of Mason City, died Sunday, November 23, 2008 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday (November 26, 2008) at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 South Delaware St., Mason City with Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday (November 25, 2008) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave . Memorials may be given to the Evelyn M. Bartusek Memorial Fund. \r\n

Evelyn Marie Bartusek was born August 25, 1919 in Emery, South Dakota the daughter of Theodore and Margaret (Cassens) Schwartz. Evelyn was the oldest of nine children. She was baptized and confirmed at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton, Iowa along with her son and husband in 1963. Evelyn graduated from Plymouth High School in 1938. She was a 1939 graduate of LaJames Beauty School and worked at the Avalon Beauty Shop for 1 years. She was united in marriage to Reuben Bartusek on September 1, 1940 at Mason City, Iowa and to this union three children were born.\r\n

Evelyn and Reuben lived in Mason City from 1940 to 1946 when they moved to the Worth County area, then to rural Grafton in 1950 where they engaged in farming for 26 years. In 1972, they retired from farming and returned to Mason City where Evelyn worked for Damons as a clerk in the childrens dept. for six years. She retired from Damons to care for her husband at home for 12 years following a farm accident. Evelyn was recognized for her volunteer work in various organizations such as church groups and womens circles at Emanuel Lutheran in Grafton and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City; RSVP, Choir, 4-H Leader, volunteer for North Iowa Food Bank for 11 years, and member of the North Iowa Quilters Guild for many years. She was an excellent seamstress and made many quilts for her family. Among some of Evelyns hobbies were sewing, quilting, reading, and gardening.\r\n

She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy (George) Wylie of Ames and Shirley (Brian) Diercks of Osceola; one son Dean (Becky) Bartusek of Hanlontown; five grandchildren, Pamela (Jeff) Spangler of Urbandale, Eric (Krista) Wylie of Cedar Rapids, Ryan Bartusek of Las Vegas, NV, Evan (Jennifer) Bartusek of Monona, and David Diercks of Ames; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Spangler, Christopher Spangler, Nathan Wylie and Rachel Wylie; five sisters, Vera (Vernon) Johnson of New Brighton, MN, Loretta (Willis) Koenigsberg of Sheffield, Mavis Deardueff of Mason City, Leila (Gordon) Hanson-Bates of Clear Lake, and Judy (Russell) Borchardt of Clear Lake; several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.\r\n

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Eileen Rogness and June Bradley, and one brother, Russell Schwartz.
