Evelyn M. Mallo, 85, of Clear Lake, IA, was called to her Heavenly home on Friday, June 24, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa in Mason City. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 1, 2016, at the First Baptist Church, 125 East State Street – Mason City, with Rev. Ron Stein officiating. Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue – Mason City. Memorial may be directed to the Evelyn Mallo memorial fund in care of the family.
Evelyn was born July 27, 1930, in Mason City, the daughter of Mason and Mable (Boyd) Barr. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1948. On June 11, 1948, she married Otto LuVern Mallo at Wesley United Methodist Church in Mason City. Evelyn was a homemaker. She also worked as a Receptionist for Mason City Clinic until her retirement in 1996. Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family and attending functions and events for her grandchildren. She loved the lake and taking her friends for pontoon rides while enjoying a nice cup of coffee. Evelyn had a strong faith and was a very active member of the First Baptist Church where she served on many boards and Bible School. She also found it very important to visit “shut-in’s” at various nursing homes in the area.
Evelyn is survived by 2 children: Karolyn Halverson and husband Mark of Mason City and Larry Mallo and wife Wendy of Mason City; daughter-in-law: Lynette Mallo of Mason City; 7 grandchildren: Robert and wife Brenda, Jason, Steve and wife Mindy, Jaime and husband Eric, Jana, Travis and Haley; 9 great grandchildren: Nathan, Mason, Dylan, Mikayla, Madelyn, Lucy, Aubrey, Alicia and Cassidy; 1 brother: Robert Barr of Bethany, OK; and 1 sister: Mary Jane Barhite and husband Victor of Longmont, CO. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on January 4, 1983; son: Gary Mallo; 3 brothers: Chuck Barr and wife Mary, Ray Barr and wife Pearl and Richard Barr and wife Dot; sister-in-law: Madelon Barr; nephew: Randy Barhite; niece: Mindy Barr; and father and mother-in-law: Otto H. and Nora Mallo.
