Evelyn M. Ruby

September 21, 1913 — July 25, 2008

Evelyn Ruby, 94, of Mason City, died Friday, July 25, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.  Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M., on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia, with Rev. Jo Frahm Watkins officiating.  Inurnment will be in Salem North Cemetery in Lake Mills, IA. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue.   Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, Hospice of North Iowa, or the American Heart Association. 
 
Evelyn was born September 21, 1913, in Glenwood, IA, the daughter of Emmet and Louisa (Agenstein) Barber.  She graduated from high school in Glenwood in 1931 and the University of Iowa in 1935 (Nursing Program).  She married Warren Ruby on May 17, 1936, in Lamoni, IA.   She was the director of the Mason City Public Health Nursing Association for 17 years.  Evelyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church, P.E.O., Valeda Study Club, Neighborhood Sewing Clubs, the White Shrine, Red Hat Society and the National, Iowa and Minnesota Button Societies (36 years).  She enjoyed flowers, traveling, nature, reading and socializing with her friends. She also loved nursing, cookbooks & recipes, and eating pie.
 
 
Evelyn is survived by her children:  Cheryl Paine and husband Greg of St. Paul, MN, Warren Ruby, Jr. and wife Roberta of Evanston, IL and Cedric Ruby of Des Moines, IA; 5 grandchildren:  David Ruby and wife Elizabeth, Cedric Chip Ruby II, Cynthia Ruby-Kaponga and husband Maio, Diana Ruby and Heather Paine; 3 great grandchildren:  Meridian and Avalon Ruby, Morgan Kaponga and Amelia Ruby.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband Warren in 1996; her parents; 3 sisters:  Florence, Gladys and Dorothy; and 4 brothers Joe, Fred, Roy and John.

Memorials:
Memorials may be directo to Hospice of North Iowa, First United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.

Salem North Cemetery - Lake Mills, IA

Visitation:
Visitation will be from 5 PM - 7PM on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Major Erickson Funeral Home.
