Everett Hermanson

MASON CITY: Everett J. Hermie Hermanson, 93, of Mason City, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009, at First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia, with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held in the Fireside Room following the memorial service. There will be no visitation. Everett has donated his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Inurnment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church or the Mason City Foundation, 308 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City, IA 50401.

Everett was born October 31, 1915, in Mason City, the son of Herman and Ruby (Crawford) Hermanson. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1933. He attended Mason City Junior College and earned his B.S. degree from Iowa State University. He was united in marriage to Beverly Jensen on June 26, 1939, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Everett worked 31 years as a sales manager for Hermanson Brothers Dairy, which became Carnation Dairy in 1954, until his retirement in 1979. He also worked for Producers Creamery in Springfield, Missouri, in 1938; Gamble Skogmo in Algona, 1940-1943; and Roberts Dairy, Lincoln, Nebraska, 1946-1948. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a T4 sergeant from September 1943 to May 1946.

Everett was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of Rotary International. He had been serving on the Kinney-Lindstrom Foundation Board since 1988. He also had served on the boards of the Mason City Foundation, the Mason City Community Concert Association and the Public Health Nursing organization. At Iowa State University, he was editor-in-chief of The Bomb yearbook, a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, and a member of an equestrian performance group. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, traveling, and taking and editing videos. He was known to friends and family as the Video King. He enjoyed volunteer work at the church and serving on the maintenance committee at the Stockman House.

Everett is survived by his wife: Beverly Hermanson of Mason City; two sons: Dr. Paul Hermanson and wife Fran of Marshalltown, Dr. Mark Hermanson and wife Tammy of Bettendorf; three grandchildren: Dr. John Hermanson and wife Patty, Mary Greff and husband Andrew, and Katie Hardie and husband Dennis; 5 great grandchildren: Noah and Phoebe Hermanson, and Elizabeth, Katherine and Nicholas Greff.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Ann Collins and husband Dave, and two grandchildren, Scott and Jeffrey Collins.
