Mason City, IA: Florence T. Miller, 79, of Mason City, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 Willowbrook Drive, with Rev. Paul Collier officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or charity of your choice.
Florence was born on December 21, 1929 in Hartley, IA, the daughter of Herman and Margaret (Barkwill) Miller. Florence graduated from Worthington Minnesota High School as valedictorian in 1947. She also graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1951. In 1951, she was employed with the Childrens Hospital in Nebraska during the polio epidemic. She also worked for Mercy Medical Center North Iowa as a Lab Technologist from 1962 1988. She married John Miller on June 15, 1952 in Omaha, NE. Florence was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was active in church circle, and Sunday school teacher and Deacon in her younger years. She was also a member of the YMCA. Education was very important to Florence. After retirement, she traveled broadly and enjoyed Elderhostel Educational Programs. Florence was a life long learner. She enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband: John Miller of Mason City; her children: Steven Miller and wife Sheri of Minnetonka, MN, and Barbara Maclin and husband Alfred of St. Paul, MN; 3 grandchildren: Nicolas, Kristen, and Erin Miller; 1 brother: Dr. Herman Miller of Austin, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Herman and Margaret Miller.
