Frances M. Harbacheck, 83, of Mason City, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at the Good Shepherd Health Center with family at her side. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 3, 2011, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, with Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with a Rosary Service at 7:30 P.M., followed by a Scriptural Wake Service. Memorials may be directed to the Frances Harbacheck memorial fund in care of the family. Frances was born February 22, 1928, in Humboldt, IA, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Grandon) VanHorn. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1946. On September 24, 1951, Frances married Leo J. Harbacheck at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. She worked for Gamble Robinson, later know as Food Services of America, for over 25 years before retiring in 1993. Frances was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she was a circle member and led a small faith group. She enjoyed dancing with Leo, auctions, garage sales, gardening, reading, listening to music, playing bingo, planning family reunions, and most of all spending time with her family and taking care of her grandchildren. Family was very important to Frances, and she was very important to them. Her nieces and nephews could always count on her, and they would refer to her as Beloved Aunt Franny. Frances is survived by five children and their families: Joseph Harbacheck and wife Teresa and children: Katie Harbacheck and Kyle Harbacheck, all of Boise, ID; Paul Harbacheck of Mason City and his daughter: Kelly Harbacheck of Dallas, TX; John Harbacheck and wife Deb Friest and children: Derek Friest and wife Samantha, Mindy Winters and husband Matt, all of Mason City; Mary Hodson of Luverne, IA, and children: Sarah Hodson of St. Louis, MO and Nick Hodson of Dubuque, IA; Pat Harbacheck of Glenville, MN, and children: Eric Harbacheck of Albert Lea, MN, and Jennifer Olveda and husband Leonel of Albert Lea; great grandchildren: Leonel Jr. and Jenessa Olveda, Cydney Shackleton, and Caleb and Alexys Winters; brother: John VanHorn and wife Doris of Humboldt; sisters-in-law: Jane VanHorn of German Town, TN, Ann Stark of Madrid, IA and Joan Gibb of Denver, CO; brother-in-law: Mark Harbacheck of Mason City. She is also survived by numerous extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leo in 2002, and her siblings: Agnes Tish, Edith Soppeland, Ed VanHorn, Gene VanHorn, and Mary Smith.
