Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 440 North Illinois Avenue – Mason City, with Pastor Scott Davis officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue - Mason City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Grace E Free Church in memory of Fred. He was born to Erna Clara Naumann Younger and Harold Lloyd Younger on May 1, 1954, in Omaha, Nebraska. He joined sister, Susan Younger who now lives in Dallas, Texas. Fred graduated from Nora Springs High School and the University of Northern Iowa with a major in anthropology and history in 1977. He had married his college sweetheart, Judy, on August 14, 1976. Fred and Judy were blessed with a son, Cole, in 1988, now a music teacher at Central Springs School. Fred was employed by Mason City Millwork, Lea Mobile Glass, and now was completing his 29th year at Diamond Vogel Paint Co. in Mason City. His parents had taught him a valuable work ethic, but more importantly, provided him with a firm faith foundation. Fred felt he could glorify the Lord, not only through service in his church, but also in his work as he traveled, his friendships, and the way he lived life. Fred loved bluegrass music and playing mandolin, especially with Cole both at church and other area events. There were many fun-filled canoe trips to the Quetico, in Canada, and the Boundary Waters first with Judy and later with Cole and other good friends. Fred often would be found at the movie theatre with his son or other close friends. He was an avid reader and loved the outdoors. He taught Aikido marital arts for many years. He served his current church as small group leader/host for several Bible studies, had served as an elder board member, initiated the hospital ministry team, went on a short term mission to Poland, and looked for every opportunity he could to further God’s Kingdom. His KCMR weekly radio show, “Bluegrass Gospel Gems”, was now in its 6th year. His love of music and his passion for the Lord were an awesome combination. Left to cherish his memories and honor his life is his wife of 38 years, Judy; his son, Cole; his parents, Harold and Ernie; his sister, Susie, and Cole’s girlfriend, Kaci, as well as many dear friends. Fred was a devoted son, compassionate husband, loving father and brother, and true example of a faithful servant. When God gently called for him in God’s perfect timing, Fred answered in obedience. Take care of him, Sweet Jesus, we will miss him deeply, but we’re certain this is not the end of the story.
