Mason City Genevieve E. Palenyk, 96, of Mason City, died Saturday, April 24, 2010, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at First Baptist Church, 125 East State St.., with Rev. Ron Stein officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church or Hospice of North Iowa. Genevieve Eileen Wildebor was born in Aplington, IA, on May 13, 1913 to Benjamin and Ella (Eckhoff) Wildebor. She moved to Mason City at the age of 8 and attended Mason City Schools. In 1937 she married William G. Palenyk, they lived in Mason City where Bill served on the Mason City Police Dept. until his death in 1961. Genevieve worked at Carter & Gillis Toy Store then at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for 12 years in dietary aide until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and was active in many womans groups. She was also a member of the Womens Police Auxiliary and Rebekahs Lodge. She enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Genevieve is survived by her one daughter, Sheila (Wayne) Lamoreux and one sister, Evelyn (Hale) Mason of Ames, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, one brother and a brother in infancy, and a grandson in infancy.
