Genevieve L. Nelson

MASON CITY Genevieve L. Nelson, 89, of Mason City, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, (July 2, 2009) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. with Pastor Ed Bard Chaplain-Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood - St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the North Iowa Nature Club.
Genevieve L. Nelson was born January 11, 1920 in Henry County, Missouri the daughter of John and Audrey (North) Shaffner. She lived in Missouri until moving to a farm in the Plymouth area in 1931. She attended Plymouth schools and graduated from there in 1936. She married Richard Nelson on April 13, 1941 in Mason City. She and Richard farmed in the Plymouth area, where she enjoyed helping on the farm. She enjoyed riding horses in her younger years and she also learned Latin at a young age. Genevieve enjoyed nature, spending time outside, bird watching, gardening and tending to her flowers. She was a former charter member of the North Iowa Nature Club. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Curtis Nelson and wife Marty Pauley of Mason City; two cousins, Cleta Kennedy and Lorraine Brown of Clinton, MO
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; daughter, Candice Nelson; and two sisters, Geneale Jirsa and Juanita Nelson.
