Genevieve N. Poulos, 94, of Mason City, died Monday, January 12, 2015 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 2nd Street SW with Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Thursday at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. A Trisagion service will be held at 6:00 PM at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Genevieve Poulos Memorial Fund. Genevieve was born August 19, 1920 in Renwick, Iowa the daughter of John and Grace (Purdy) Palmer. She was raised in Renwick and attended schools there as well as in Britt. Genevieve married John C. Poulos October 21, 1943 in Gary, Indiana and in January of 1945 they were married in the Greek Orthodox Church in Mason City. Genevieve and John moved to Britt, Iowa where they owned and operated Poulos Billiards. They moved to Mason City in 1955. Genevieve worked as a cafeteria cook for the Mason City Public Schools for 25 years. She retired in 1985. Genevieve was a member of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, Daughters of Penelope and Philoptochos Society. Genevieve is survived by her children, James Poulos of Duluth, Minnesota, Pamela (Frank) Hunssinger of Lake Zurich, Illinois and Kristie (George) Pattison of Woodstock, New York; grandchildren, Sarah and Andrew Hunssinger, Nicholas Pattison; brother, Keith (Ruth) Palmer of Sac City; several nieces and nephews. Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John; brother, Roy Thomas Palmer; 2 sisters, Virginia O’Brien and Joyce Anderson.
