George O. Emmert, 89, of Mason City, died Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Ed Bard of Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be directed to the George Emmert Memorial fund in care of his family.
George was born April 1, 1927 the son of Ben and Maude (Currier) Emmert in Mason City, Iowa. He was raised in Mason City and later graduated from Mason City High School. Following graduation George enlisted in the United States Navy serving his country until his honorable discharge.
On June 11, 1947 George was united in marriage to Imogene Whitney. To this union two daughters where born.
George loved the outdoors and looked forward to going fishing and hunting. He enjoyed following his grandchildren and great grandchildren in their many activities over the years. George was known to be a jokester and was always razing someone to get a rise out of them. He was a huge Vikings and Twins fan and caught every game he could. George was a member of the VFW.
Those thankful for having shared in George’s life include his children, Julie Mohler, Debra (Dan) Paulson, three grandchildren, Shane Emmert, Nicole Ketchum, Rochelle Quiroz and eleven great grandchildren.
Mr. Emmert was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Imogene, one granddaughter, Colette Perry, two sisters, Evelyn Carlson, Frances Johnson and one brother, John Emmert.
