Mason City ? Gilbert G. ?Gib? Kruse, 88 of Garner and formerly of Mason City died October 19, 2005 at the Mercy Medical Center ? North Iowa. Funeral services for Gilbert will be held at 11 AM on Monday, October 24, 2005 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 North Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Samuel Hamilton ? Poore officiating. Visitation will be from 4 ? 7 PM on Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue and one hour prior to service time at the church on Monday. Interment will be in the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton with graveside services conducted by Rev. Karl Bollhagen of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hampton officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Gilbert G. Kruse Memorial Fund. Gilbert G. Kruse was born September 13, 1917 the son of John B. and Christine (Brunotte) Kruse in Hampton, Iowa. He attended Chapin consolidated school for eight years and graduated from Hampton High School in 1936. Gilbert served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged following four years of service. Gilbert then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls graduating in 1950 with his B.A. He later received his Master?s Degree from Iowa State Teachers College in 1965. Gilbert was united in marriage to Elaine M. Fric on June 1, 1955 in Parkersburg, Iowa. He taught school in Fertile, Allison and Iowa Falls prior to moving to Mason City in 1962. Gilbert then taught at John Adams Junior High School until he retired in 1979. He then began working for Mason City Transit for twelve years. Gilbert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton and a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City. He was also a lifetime member of the National Education Association and the Iowa Education Association. Gilbert is survived by his children: Tom Kruse and wife Michele of Cedar Rapids; Kay McAloon and husband Marty of Garner; grandchildren, Tyler, Brandon and Connor Kruse all of Cedar Rapids, Bobbi Breitkreutz of Cedar Rapids and Danielle Breitkreutz of Clear Lake; brother, Edward Kruse and wife Irma of Rockford; sister Marguerite Behn of Hampton; sister-in-law, Arlys Kruse of Mason City. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Christine Kruse; a grandson in infancy, Ryan, brothers, Victor Kruse and wife Wilma, Vernon Kruse and wife Clara and John Kruse; sister, Verneda Thuman and husband Bernard; brother-in-law, Gilbert Behn.
