Gladys E. Smidt, 79, of Mason City, died Saturday, November 24, 2007 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Rochester, MN. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday (November 28, 2007) at Our Saviour?s Lutheran Church, 2502 South Jefferson Ave. with Rev. Emily Horrell officiating. Interment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday (November 27, 2007) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church one hour before the service. Gladys Smidt (Rhodes), loving wife of Pete Smidt; devoted mother of Richard(Diane)Hayes, Diane(Loren) Hansen, Debbie Kloster(Darwin Weide), Duane Smidt (Sandi Jackson); Grandmother of Brent (Jennifer), Nathan, and Brooks (Jennifer) Hanson, John (Jennifer) and Heather (Ryan) Kloster, Christa (Rob) Zahradnik, Tim and Tyler Hayes, Zachary and Courtney Smidt; Great-Grandmother of Cayden, Kade, Myah, Brycelyn, Caster, Lukas, Landyn, Dane and Sophia; Sister of Betty Anderson, Nancy Holms, Janice Fisher, and Billy Rhodes; Special friends Nancy Hjelle, Lucy Henning and Angie Albright, Special companion Teddy. Gladys was born July 13, 1928 in Mason City to William Rhodes and Merle Jensen. Gladys stayed at home most of her life taking care of her children. She also worked as a housekeeper. On July 27, 1953 she was united into marriage to Peter Smidt in Sioux Falls South Dakota. She loved playing Bingo, sitting on the porch in her swing, the company of her family, her nightly ice cream and her owl collection. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother.
