Gladys L. Serdahl

MASON CITY: Gladys I. Serdahl, 104, of Mason City, died Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Heritage Care Center. Private graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. There will be no visitation. Gladys was born April 11, 1910 in Allamakee County Iowa the daughter of Andrew and Julia (Slinds) Halverson. Her parents had immigrated from Norway to the United States. Gladys married Floyd Donald Serdahl September 19, 1929 in Waukon. In 1942, they moved to Mason City. Gladys stayed home to take care of her family while her husband worked for Sears & Roebuck. A few of her interests included flowers, playing cards and having coffee with her many friends. She also enjoyed playing the Mandolin, often with and for her family. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Gladys is survived by a daughter, Joyce (Marvin) Thomas of Klemme; daughter-in-law, Bess Serdahl of Nixa, Missouri; grandchildren, Rick Serdahl of Topeka, Kansas, Debbie Hinkle and Lance of Springfield, Missouri and Jay (Laurie) Thomas of Mason City; also, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren survive. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Floyd; son, Donald and 10 brothers and sisters.
