Glen Crabtree, 79 of rural Aredale, Iowa was born February 9, 1926, the son of John and Ruth (Thompson) Crabtree. He grew up in rural areas in Kansas and Iowa with an interest in animals, snakes, birds, bees, trees and adventure. He spent his boyhood trapping, hunting and dreaming of far away places. He attended Radcliffe High School, then harvested wheat in Kansas and harvested apples in Washington, and helped farm at home. In 1946 ? 47 Glen served in the US Army in Japan. On June 1, 1949 Glen married the love of his life, Lois Wheeler. Being a Christian he attended local churches. Glen roofed, ranched and farmed near Radcliffe, IA; Bloomington, CA; Hubbard, IA; Latimer, IA; Crockett, TX; and Aredale, IA and had many travel adventures: Peace Corp in West Cameroon, Africa; VISTA in Osceola, AR; missions in Ethiopia, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Antigua; and others to Brazil, Australia, Japan, Ecuador, and drove from Yukon, Alaska to Panama. Glen enjoyed boating, trimming and mowing the tree farm, square dancing, and fishing especially in Florida. He died Friday, July 15, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at the Faith Baptist Church. 1701 Central Avenue East in Hampton, Iowa with Dr. Steve Anderson officiating. There will be no visitation. Survivors include his wife Lois of Aredale; daughter, Linda Dannen and husband Ed of Hampton, Kathleen Iverson and husband Ken of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Jason Dannen and wife Kati of Mason City, Jess Rust and wife Kim of Moccasin, Montana, Aimee Reichenbacher and husband Bill of Nashua, Ben Rust and wife Penny of Sheffield, Rachel Pluff and husband Eric of Alexander, Charity Miller and husband Perry of Hampton; eleven great-grandchildren: Bryan, Eddie, Morrigan, Emma, Macoy, Izabel, Brienna, Macey, John, Marshal and Glen; step-grandchildren, Kayla and Josey Iverson; sisters, Marge Gillespie and Kathryn Rankin both of Iowa Falls. Glen was preceded in death by his parents John and Ruth Crabtree, and infant son, Tom and brothers, Theodore, Forrest and Donald Crabtree. Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements (641)423-0924.
