Gordon A. Djuren, 75, of Mason City, died Thursday, October 1, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday October 5, 2015, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware Avenue with Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM on Sunday October 4, 2015, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with a special toast at 5:00 PM in Gordon’s honor. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Gordon was born June 30, 1940, in Mason City, the son of Harm and Margaret (Hill) Djuren. He graduated from Osage High School in 1958. Gordon married Sharon Wright September 26, 1959, in Osage. Gordon was a self-employed mason laying block, brick and stone for 40 years in North Iowa. He retired in 2012. He loved animals, being outdoors, woodworking, bird watching and collecting windmills. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Henry Haulers of Iowa F-100 Truck Club and NARCOA (North American Railcar Operators Association).
Gordon is survived by his 4 children: Dave (Carol) Djuren of Mason City, Marie Djuren of Fort Dodge, IA, Wanda (John) Goranson of Waukee, IA and Troy (Crystal) Djuren of Clear Lake, IA; 5 grandchildren: Travis (Jessi) Djuren of Windsor Heights, IA, Jason (Kasendra) Djuren of Des Moines, IA, Crystal (David) Smith of Two Harbors, MN, Jonna (Joshua) Woolheater of Waukee, IA and James Goranson of Vermillion, SD; 1 great step grandchild: Taylin Woolheater, Waukee, IA; and 2 sisters: Beverly (Eldon) Olesen of Charles City, IA and Janice (Milton) Kuhlers of Stuart, FL.
Gordon was preceded in death by his wife Sharon in 2010; his parents; and a daughter-in-law: Tracy Djuren.
