Gordon “Gordy” Wesley Rezab, 79, of Mason City, IA, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on his 80th birthday which is Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Kathy Graves of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the Gordon Rezab memorial fund in care of the family.
Gordon was born February 24, 1936, in Mason City, the son of Wesley Arnold and Marjorie (Cookman) Rezab. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1955. On October 7, 1978, he was united in marriage to Linda Jo Lysne. Gordy was a newspaper person almost all his life. He started as a paper boy at age 9. After graduation he delivered tear sheets and checked advertising with businesses. He served 4 years as a journeyman and was a Pressman for 40 years. Gordy retired from the Globe Gazette in Mason City on December 30, 1998. Gordy was known for folding paper hats out of newspaper which he always wore while working. He was vain about being bald. After retirement he worked for Mason City Ford detailing cars and for the Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board for 7 years mowing grass and painting picnic tables and bridges in Rockwell and Thornton. He loved to walk and was seen all over Mason City. He also liked to play 500 and loved to dance. Country music only!
Gordy is survived by his wife of 37 years: Linda Jo Rezab of Mason City; 2 sons: Todd of Forest City, IA and Scott and wife Julie of Whittier, CA; 6 grandchildren: T.J. and fiancée Lili of Forest City, Jordan of Forest City, Alex and fiancée Becca of Spirit Lake, IA, Caleb, Andrew and Nicole of Whittier; 1 sister: Dolores Stevens and husband Ken of Aredale, IA; 2 nieces: Julie Potratz and Linda Glendening and husband Ron; 1 nephew: Craig Stevens and wife Nancy; his mother-in-law: Betty Lysne; sister-in-law: Becky Lysne. He is also survived by many faithful friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law: Velman “Bud” Lysne; brother-in-law: Andrew “Andy” Lysne; as well as his Rezab, Cookman and Aldrich grandparents.
