Gordon James Schupbach, 84 of Mason City died Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, December 8, 2012 at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 4th Street SE with Pastor Paul Nelson officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by the Mason Veterans Association following the service. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa. Gordon was born September 13, 1928 in Elgin, Iowa the son of William and Anna (Friederich) Schupbach. He attended school in Elgin. Following school, he enlisted in the US Navy and served for 3 years. He was honorably discharged in 1947. Gordon returned to Elgin and in 1961 moved to Mason City. Gordon worked as a self-employed painter owning and operating Schupbach Painting Company here in Mason City. Gordon was a member of the Lunker Club, and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing in Canada and gatherings with friends. Gordon also enjoyed watching sports, gardening, cooking and spending time at his home. Gordon is survived by his children, Jim (Kristin) Schupbach of La Crescent, Minnesota, Joni (Rick) Klein of Mason City, and Rick (Lisa) Schupbach of Grundy Center; 9 grandchildren, Heidi Ressler, Heather Rockwell, Brandon Bonjour, Kai Smed, Katie Smed, Jim Schupbach, Taylor Schupbach, Treye Schupbach, and Emma Schupbach, and; 9 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Bill (Jan) Schupbach of Arizona. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers, Reuben, Herman, Glen, Fritz, Al, and Louis; 4 sisters, Marie, Elizabeth, Anna Mae, and Marquerite.
