Gordon S. Dye, 75, of Mason City, died Thursday, June 7, 2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday (June 9, 2007) at the First United Methodist Church in the WAYside Chapel, 119 S. Georgia with Pastor Patti Aurand of the First United Congregational Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Veteran Honors performed by the Mason City Memorial Association. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church in the WAYside Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of North Iowa. Gordon was born September 16, 1931 in Mason City the son of Albert and Mildred Ann (Stewart) Dye. He enlisted into the Army in 1950 where he served in the Korean Conflict until he was honorably discharged 1953. He was married to Betty (McCoun) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on January 21, 1955 to this union six children were born. Gordon graduated from the Refrigeration/Air Conditioning program from NIACC. He worked at Mercy Hospital in the Maintenance Department for 25 years until his retirement. Prior to working for the hospital, he ran the Western gas station and also the Wheel Inn Restaurant located north of Mason City for many years. Gordon enjoyed gardening and outside work, feeding and watching the birds, reading, cooking, and collecting all kinds of things. He enjoyed going on trips with is family, especially their yearly trips to Adventureland in Des Moines. Family was important to Gordon and he enjoyed the times he shared with them. Gordon is survived by his wife, Betty of 52 years; children, Julie Asbe and husband Ken, Sheryl Arndt and husband Craig, Dan Dye, Paul Dye, Mark Dye and Gordon Dye Jr. and wife Theresa; grandchildren, Erin, Eric, and Mike Asbe, Courtney and Cole Arndt, Whitney and Colby Dye, Brookelyn Dye, Evan and Montgomery Dye; great-grandchild, Hunter Asbe; sister, Jackie Mansfield and husband Dennis; mother-in-law, Josephine McCoun; brother-in-law, Thomas McCoun and many nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Adams; step-father, Reece Adams and Paternal father, Albert Daniel Dye and sister-in-law, Mary Orman.
