MASON CITY: Harlan E. Johnson, 87, of La Porte City, Iowa, formerly of Mason City, died Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo. Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 S. Pierce, Mason City with Rev. Paul Collier officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City and continue on Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the Harlan E. Johnson Memorial Fund.
Harlan was born May 13, 1928 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of Ernest T. and Julia T. (Madsen) Johnson. He graduated from Finchford Consolidated High School. Harlan married Mary Jean Rounds November 21, 1947 in New Hartford. They moved to Mason City in 1961. Harlan was a self-employed truck driver where through the years he drove for Ruan, Kroblin, Carnation and Nestles. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mason City, Elks Lodge and the Teamsters.
Harlan is survived by his children, Chuck W. (Janice) Johnson of Sun City, Arizona, Karen (Jerry) Rowley of Bremerton, Washington, Jerry R. Johnson of Eyota, Minnesota and Kenneth H. (Stephanie) Johnson of Waukon; special friend, Doris Dilley of La Porte City; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Don Johnson of Jesup.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Jean; son, Danny C. Johnson and 2 brothers, Richard and Bruce.
